Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Stephen Appiah, has noted that he is convinced of an imminent qualification of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup as he expressed great confidence in the team.
In their quest to securing their fifth-ever World Cup ticket, the West African powerhouses enhanced their chances of qualifying for the Mundial, which is scheduled to be hosted in Northern America; the United States of America, Mexico and Canada with back-to-back wins in the qualifying double header against Chad and Madagascar which produced 8 goals and a clean sheet.
The victories saw the Black Stars climb the ladder to sit atop of Group I with 15 points, three points ahead of Comoros who are on second place with 12 points. There are four matches remaining to finish the qualifiers and the Black Stars will be looking to end the qualifying rounds on a high note, maintaining the top spot to secure an automatic qualification to the global event.
Speaking on the TotalEnergies Auto Show on Citi FM, Appiah, who is a former skipper for the Black Stars and led the team to their maiden World Cup in 2006 and again securing a back-to-back World Cup qualification in 2010, expressed confidence in the qualification chances following the team's recent remarkable performances.
“For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar and the friendlies, the Unity Cup that we played in the UK against Nigeria and Trinidad, it has given me a lot of hope because the new players who came showed themselves well," he asserted.
"So yeah, I am very convinced that we still have four games to play, but when you do the calculations, nothing tells me that we are not going to qualify," Appiah added.
The Black Stars will regroup in September for the Matchdays 7 and 8 games against Chad and Mali before wrapping up their qualifiers against Comoros and Central African Republic in October.
