Relief has swept through Mamprobi and its surrounding communities after the Ghana Police Service at Dansoman arrested a woman suspected of stealing a newborn baby from the Mamprobi Polyclinic.

The infant was safely recovered and reunited with his mother at the police station before both were taken back to the polyclinic. Medical staff have since admitted the mother to the gynaecology department, where she is receiving care.

The arrest comes after dramatic scenes on Tuesday afternoon, when the baby’s father realised his child was missing shortly after delivery.

Videos that later circulated on social media captured him confronting hospital officials and demanding access to CCTV footage to help trace the suspect.

Police sources say footage from the facility proved crucial, clearly capturing the woman believed to have taken the baby and enabling officers to act quickly.

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, was instrumental in coordinating efforts between the police and hospital authorities to secure the child’s safe return.

The Gender Minister and other Members of Parliament were also present during the emotional reunion.

Speaking to Adom News, family members expressed profound gratitude and relief following the safe recovery of the baby.

Police have assured the public that steps will be taken to strengthen security at health facilities to prevent similar incidents.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the alleged theft and to determine whether the suspect acted alone or with accomplices.
