One student is in critical condition following a road traffic accident involving three male students and a taxi driver at Juaso Junction in the Asante Akyem South Municipality.
The students, all from Asankare Technical Youth School, were travelling from Asankare to Juaso on their way home for the Christmas break when the incident occurred.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the taxi driver attempted an illegal overtaking manoeuvre, resulting in a collision with an Asante Akyem towing vehicle. A stationary cargo truck parked along the roadside was also hit during the crash.
Two of the students escaped with minor injuries, while the third sustained severe injuries and was left in a critical state. The taxi driver is reported to have absconded shortly after the accident.
All three injured students were rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources say the two with minor injuries are responding positively to care.
The cargo truck involved in the accident has the registration number AS 8210 P, while the taxi bears registration number AS 5221 F. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
