Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to ensure the fast release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results to ease anxiety among students and the public.
Speaking at the 2025 WAEC Distinction Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 26, the Minister praised both WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for successfully conducting the examinations but explained the need for timely feedback.
“Let me commend you for a very successful BECE examination. What we expect from you now is the early, timely release of the results so that anxiety and anxiousness in the students will go down,” he said.
In addition, Mr. Iddrisu announced plans by the government to introduce a new legal framework to govern the awarding of scholarships in Ghana. He said the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill would soon be presented to Parliament.
“Within the few weeks to come, I will introduce the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he promised Ghanaians to deal with the issue of nepotism that was associated with the award of scholarships,” he disclosed.
He also called on the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to lend his support to the bill when it is tabled in the House.
