The Sudan Football Association (SFA) is prepared to allow Kwesi Appiah to take charge of Ghana’s national team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, amid ongoing efforts to appoint a new Black Stars head coach.

‎Ghana are currently without a manager following the dismissal of Otto Addo after a disappointing run of results, including a 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany in recent international friendlies.

‎With less than three months before the World Cup begins in North America, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is under pressure to secure a replacement capable of stabilising the team.

‎Reports from Ghanaian media suggest that Sudan would not obstruct any formal approach for Appiah, despite no official contact having yet been made. Under a potential arrangement, the GFA would assume responsibility for his salary during the tournament, with Appiah expected to return to his role with Sudan after the competition.

Appiah remains a respected figure in Ghanaian football, having previously led the Black Stars and guided the team to the 2014 World Cup, becoming the first Ghanaian coach to achieve that feat.

‎His possible return comes as the GFA continues to explore multiple options, with experienced names such as Pitso Mosimane, Tom Saintfiet and Hervé Renard also reportedly in contention.

‎Ghana are scheduled to regroup in May as preparations intensify. The Black Stars will face Mexico before concluding their pre-tournament fixtures against Wales on 2 June.

‎Drawn in Group L, Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on 17 June, before taking on England and Croatia in what promises to be a challenging group.

‎After group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, the four-time African champions will be hoping a swift and decisive coaching appointment can spark a revival and improve their fortunes on the global stage.
