A rare event in a football season happened in Maurita
nia as two participating teams in the top flight, the Mauritanian D1 League became winners of the 2024-2025 season and both having winners' medals. It all happened when Al Hilal, a Sudanese club were invited alongside Al-Merrikh to participate in the Mauritanian league amidst tension and instability in their country, Sudan.
At the end of the season, Sudanese club Al Hilal emerged winners of the league as they sit attop of the league table with a whopping 68 points whilst second-placed team, FC Nouadhibou accumulated 61 points after 30 games in a 16-team league. The Mauritanian league before this season used to be a 14-team league but the inclusion of Al Hilal and Al-Merrikh of Sudan increased the number to 16.
However, FC Nouadhibou who were originally a Mauritanian club technically became the substantive victors of the 2024-2025 Mauritanian D1 League, defending their title again and have now won it eight times in a row since the 2017-2018 season clinching their thirteenth(13th) title in the Mauritanian top flight-dominating the league for a long time.
Sudanese club, Al Hilal's efforts did not go unnoticed as they were adjudged joint-winners of the title alongside FC Nouadhibou as they also received a special trophy and winners medals in same fashion as Nouadhibou, acknowledging their efforts as they came in as "sojourners" who came in to become champions of Mauritania.
