An Information Technology Center project located in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, which was commenced by the Ex-President John Agyekum Kufour administration and abandoned by the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) regime has finally been completed and commissioned by the Akufo-Addo-led government after 16 years.
The objective of this project is to see how Girls in ICT, a program meant to shape and strengthen our Basic school-going Girls can master their skills in the study of ICT.
About 30 pupils were grouped into two and ICT consultants were brought from the Kofi Annan ICT Centre to train these Girls in software development programs such as coding and graphics, etc.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong at the commission said 'The project started some sixteen years ago in the NPP Kuffour administration. The NDC eight years under Mills and Mahama administration abandoned the project. The President Akufo Addo administration today as part of global digitization has completed the center for use by the people of Suhum Constituency".
The Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful on Monday joined the chiefs of Suhum - Ayekotse and leadership of the NPP in the Constituency to Commission an ultramodern ICT facility for the people of Suhum Constituency.
In her keynote address, the Minister commended the NPP Government for their continuity in developmental projects.
The Sector Minister, Ursula Owusu-Akuffo on her side also reiterated the Government's commitment to extend a digitalized environment to the doorstep of Ghanaians.
According to her, about two thousand such facilities have been constructed across the nation and about one thousand are about to be constructed and will be completed before the end of 2024.
The facility will train the youth in ICT, and serve as teaching-learning materials (TLMs) for schools within the Constituency. It will also serve as an employment bid for the youth in the Constituency.
The Minister commended the former Member of Parliament, Frederick Opare Ansah for his initiative to lobby for the project as a member of the parliamentary select committee on Communications some sixteen years ago.
She also commended the joint efforts by the current Suhum MP Oboafo Kwadjo Asante for his role play in seeing the continuation and completion of the project.
The Chief of Ayekotse, Nene Ayekotse Teinor also expresses his appreciation to the Government for its developmental projects across the country and most especially witnessing one right on his land of Ayekotse.
The chief also assured the Minister of ensuring that maintenance culture is strictly adhered to after accepting the role of the Chairman of the Sustainability Management Committee (SMC) for the facility and promised the functioning of the centre for its intended faithful.
