The campaign for team Ghana to lift the 2019AFCON trophy is still ongoing and the latest to add his voice to it is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adansi Asokwa constituency, Hon KT Hammond.

The controversial legislator says there is nothing wrong in Ghanaians supporting the Black Stars but warned that they should not do so with their heart since according to him, "you are the one who will die and leave them".

The team, after a disappointing result against Benin will look to revive their campaign against Cameroon tomorrow who won against Guinea Bissau and currently lead the group.

Hon Hammond, who is a senior member of the majority caucus in an interview lamented the Black Stars have disappointed Ghanaians in a number of competitions over the years leaving the majority of football fans with heart problems.

“This is the situation with the Black Stars but when I talk people say I am controversial. The way these boys play the game if you put your heart into it, you are the one who will die and leave them. We last won the Afcon championship in 1982. The Black Stars was a force to reckon with during the era of the Osei Kofis and others to the Opoku Ntis and Sampson Lampteys.”

“I was shocked to read yesterday that Cameroon has won the Afcon four times as Ghana and indeed are the defending champions at Egypt 2019.”

He queried, “When the Black Stars first won or last won the cup in 1982 where was Cameroon?”

“Did they even know what football was and today they have won the African Nations Cup four good times, same as the Black Stars.”

The MP expressed doubt about assurances given by the Black Stars players that they will win the 2019 Afcon tournament.

He argued same promises had been given over many tournaments in the past without results.

He said, “I will be holding unto my peace until the Black Stars deliver on their promise to bring that Championship Cup home and then my heart, soul and body will rejoice.”
