The Supreme Court is expected to hear an application on Tuesday, December 16, seeking to quash the judgment of the Tamale High Court that annulled the Kpandai parliamentary election.

The application was filed by the embattled Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, who is challenging the High Court’s decision to nullify the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election results. Mr Nyindam argues that the High Court wrongly assumed jurisdiction over the election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.

In his application, Mr Nyindam is seeking a judicial review to quash the High Court’s judgment, as well as all related processes and proceedings, on the grounds that the petition was invalid.

Following the High Court ruling, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) applied for a stay of execution to prevent the Electoral Commission and the NDC from acting on the annulment, pending the Supreme Court’s determination.

Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, said the party would wait for the Supreme Court’s decision before deciding its next steps.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News on Monday, December 15, 2025, he said the ruling would determine whether Mr Nyindam remains Member of Parliament for Kpandai.

“For now, there is no election until we get a definitive ruling from the court. What the court is going to say will inform our decision. If it comes out positively, in line with the law, it means that Mathew Nyindam, having won the election, will continue to be the Member of Parliament for Kpandai, and the victory remains ours," he said.

He added that the party would respond decisively should the ruling go against them.

“But if the ruling comes otherwise, and the law is thrown to the dogs in the face of the Ghanaian people, we will make our stance very clear, and we will face whatever the court decides,” he stated.
