Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has accused suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo of behaving in a way that suggests a presumption of guilt, following her sharp criticism of the committee investigating her possible removal from office.
In a supplementary affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Justice Torkornoo described the proceedings led by Justice Pwamang as a "mockery of justice" and a "ruse" designed to unjustly oust her from her position.
She also accused the committee of violating her dignity and fundamental human rights, calling the entire process “inhumane and degrading.”
Among her specific grievances was the location of the hearings, held in a high-security area—which she argued was intimidating and inappropriate.
She noted that similar proceedings in the past had been conducted at the Judicial Service’s Court Complex, a more neutral and open venue.
Responding to her claims in an interview on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Dafeamekpor urged the Chief Justice to refrain from public attacks on the process and instead respect the rule of law.
“I think that she should rather allow [the law to work]. She is acting in a manner that is presumptive of guilt,” he said
As the legal battle continues, the work of the committee remains under close political and public scrutiny.
Justice Torkornoo was suspended after a prima facie case was established in response to three petitions calling for her removal.
