Medical diagnostics company SYNLAB Ghana has pushed back against swirling media claims surrounding a GHC10 million lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was misdiagnosed with HIV, resulting in devastating personal and professional consequences.

According to widespread reports, the woman claims that a positive HIV result from SYNLAB cost her a job opportunity and left her battling stigma, only for subsequent tests to show she was not actually infected.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, SYNLAB Ghana confirmed the existence of a legal suit but firmly challenged what it called “inaccurate and misleading” media portrayals of the ongoing case.

“We acknowledge that a matter has been filed in court and the complainant has every right to pursue legal recourse,” the statement read. “However, we categorically deny the claims made and reject the media narrative that has accompanied them.”

Legal Defence Underway


The company revealed that it has engaged legal counsel and officially submitted a statement of defence denying all allegations. It emphasized that the matter is now sub judice and should be treated with the caution it deserves.
“Our legal team is actively addressing the issue in court, and we are committed to allowing the judicial process to take its course,” SYNLAB said.

Strict Adherence to Global Standards


In response to concerns about its testing protocols, SYNLAB highlighted its internationally benchmarked standards, including ISO 15189:2022 accreditation from Germany’s DAkkS and certification from Ghana’s Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA).
“We operate under rigorous internal and external quality controls that ensure the accuracy and integrity of all tests, including HIV diagnostics,” the company stated, adding that client confidentiality and ethical practice remain at the heart of its services.

Media Called to Exercise Responsibility


SYNLAB also used the opportunity to caution both the public and the media against sensationalized reporting, warning that the spread of unverified information could skew public perception and undermine legal proceedings.
“The publication in question contains several factual inaccuracies. We urge media houses to respect due process and avoid amplifying one-sided narratives,” the company added.

Despite the controversy, SYNLAB Ghana reassured its clients and stakeholders that the lawsuit has no impact on the reliability or quality of its services.
“We remain dedicated to our mission of providing accurate, timely, and trusted diagnostic services,” the company concluded.
