Samuel Udoetuk Wills, the suspected kidnapper who escaped from police cells in Takoradi in the Western Region, was mute on the allegation he made that an officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) aided him to escape from police cells when he appeared before the Takoradi Magistrate Court yesterday.

He, however, asked the court to give him more time to produce his witness, one Kwesi, after he took the police on another wild goose chase.

It would be recalled that when the suspect appeared before the Takoradi Magistrate on Monday, February 11, 2019, he alleged that a CID personnel aided him to escape.

He also told the court that he had a witness called Kwesi and that he would produce him in court yesterday for him to testify in the case.

According to him, the said Kwesi brought him a hacksaw blade and oil to cut open the iron rod protecting the small window that provides ventilation to escape from the cell.

The court then gave the suspect one week (which ended yesterday) to produce the said Kwesi in court to testify, but failed to produce the witness in court yesterday.

He, however, pleaded with the court to give him more time to produce his witness.

The Head of Operations at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Lord Nyartwi, told the court that Samuel Udoetuk Wills led some personnel of the Police and BNI to Kansaworodo in the metropolis to look for his witness Kwesi, but could not show the personnel exactly where the said Kwesi lived.

The court, presided over by Mr. Michael Ampadu, gave the suspect additional two weeks to go with the personnel of the BNI and police and show them exactly where the Kwesi is so he could be put before the court at the next sitting.

The case was adjourned to March 4, 2019.

First Wild Goose Chase

It would be recalled that immediately after the suspected Nigerian kidnapper was recaptured after escaping from police cells, he mentioned that he worked with one John who was with the victims in Kasoa in the Central Region.

The police escorted him to Kasoa to help locate the said John and the victims.

According to the police, when they got to Kasoa, they combed the whole area but Samuel Udoetuk Wills could not lead them to the victims.

Judge Advises Parents

The Magistrate, Mr Michael Ampadu, told the parents of the victims that even though finding the missing girls was his topmost priority, the court had to first deal with the case of escaping from cells before going to the main case.

He disclosed that the case of kidnapping was not before the court because the investigators had not finished with their job and called on the parents not to mount pressure on the police and the court.

Parent In Tears

Alexander Kojo Koranchie, father of one of the victims, Priscilla Koranchie, could not hold back his tears after the suspect purportedly failed to say anything about his escape from cells with the assistance of a CID officer.

“I don’t know why he did not say anything on that, but I know the police are investigating, and at the appropriate time they will come to speak on that matter,” he told DAILY GUIDE after the court sitting.
