After giving a thrilling performance in the first leg of his Wasafi Festival in Mtwara, Tanzania on Saturday night, Bongo artiste, Diamond Platnumz was left counting huge losses.

The colourful night turned into a nightmare for the singer after he was mugged of his pure diamond and gold chains worth Tshs40 million (Sh1.8 million) while mingling with crowd.

“Zile zilikuwa white gold na diamond nilinunua Marekani. Sikumbuki lakini hazishuki million arubanne. Nilijua haziwezi kung’oka, alivyotokea mtu ghafla akazipull nilipatwa na shock,” a visibly shocked Diamond said after the incident.

Diamond and his Wasafi stable had pitched camp in Mtwara to kick start the inaugural launch of Wasafi Festival which will reach its climax in Kenya with two shows slated for Mombasa and Nairobi.

Thousands of fans flocked the venue for the much hyped show which lived up to expectation with trail blazing performance from the Wasafi signed artiste among invited such as Dudu Baya and Navy Kenzo.

Real name Naseeb Abdul Juma, Diamond Platnumz who was born on born October 2, 1989 has had several hit songs including Number One featuring Nigerian artiste, Davido.

The multiple award winning artiste is considered influential among his fans, and is said to be the most loved and decorated East and Central African artiste at the moment.

In February 2018 he launched his new Wasafi TV and Radio in Tanzania.

He also launched his first album A Boy from Tandale in Nairobi, Kenya in March 2018.

Diamond who has two children—Latifah Dangote and Nillan Dangote with his ex wife, South African based Ugandan businesswoman Zari Hassan is said to be the richest musician in East Africa. 

He also has a third child, Abdul Nasibu, with model Hamisa Mobeto.
