Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has signed a new one-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion, putting an end to speculation about his future following the expiration of his previous deal.
The 24-year-old Ghana international, who joined the club in 2020, has made 122 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.
Despite rumours linking him with a move away during the summer transfer window, the short-term extension ensures Lamptey will remain at the Amex Stadium for the 2025–26 season.
Confirming the news, Brighton released a statement:
“Defender Tariq Lamptey has agreed a one-year contract extension with Albion. The 24-year-old Ghana international made his Albion debut in 2020 and has made 122 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.”
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler expressed his satisfaction with Lamptey’s renewal, highlighting the defender’s importance to the team:
“We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us. He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas. We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season.”
During the 2024–25 campaign, Lamptey featured in 20 matches across all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists, reaffirming his role as a dynamic presence on the flanks.
Since switching international allegiance from England to Ghana in 2022, he has earned eight caps with the Black Stars.
Lamptey’s decision to stay is seen as a key boost for Brighton as they look to build on recent progress under new leadership.
