Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey scored a late goal for Brighton & Hove Albion, but it wasn't enough to prevent a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in a gripping EFL Cup clash.

Lamptey, who played the full match, showed remarkable resilience, netting in the final moments to keep Brighton's hopes alive.

The game’s intensity ramped up in the second half when Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo opened the scoring just after the restart with an assist from Tyler Morton.

Gakpo struck again in the 63rd minute to make it 2-0. Brighton responded in the 81st minute, as Simon Adingra capitalized on a loose ball, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

But Liverpool quickly restored their two-goal advantage in the 85th minute with a composed finish by Luis Diaz.

As the match neared full-time, Lamptey's deflected left-footed shot found the bottom corner in the 90th minute, igniting a glimmer of hope for Brighton.

Despite their late push, the Seagulls fell short, allowing Liverpool to advance to the fifth round.

Brighton will look to rebound as they meet Liverpool again in their upcoming league fixture on November 2nd.
