Residents in parts of Accra will experience a temporary interruption in water supply today, Friday, December 19, 2025, due to scheduled maintenance works at the Weija Water Treatment Plant.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced that the plant will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to carry out essential maintenance works aimed at improving service delivery, especially ahead of the Christmas season.

According to GWCL, water production and distribution will resume immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.

Communities expected to be affected include Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe, and surrounding areas.

The company assured customers that all necessary resources and logistics have been mobilised, with technical teams working to complete the exercise within the scheduled timeframe.

Managing Director of GWCL, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, said the maintenance is critical to maintaining the integrity of the water infrastructure and ensuring a more reliable supply to consumers.

GWCL has advised residents in affected areas to store enough water ahead of the shutdown to reduce inconvenience. The company also apologised for the disruption and appealed for public understanding and cooperation as it works to improve water service delivery across the capital.
