A tragic incident at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region has left residents in shock following the death of a landlady, known as Madam Charlotte, after an alleged assault linked to a dispute over poor sanitation practices in her compound house.

According to accounts gathered from the community, the incident began when a female tenant reportedly defecated into a polythene bag and left it directly in front of Madam Charlotte’s room.

The act allegedly infuriated the landlady, who confronted the tenant over what she described as an unacceptable and unhygienic behaviour within the house.

The tenant, however, defended her actions, explaining that she was suffering from a severe stomach upset and could not reach the public toilet in time.

She further cited the absence of an in-house toilet facility as a longstanding challenge faced by occupants of the house, a concern that had allegedly been raised on several occasions without resolution.

Witnesses say the confrontation between the two women escalated into a heated argument but appeared to have been resolved temporarily, with no immediate signs of violence.

However, tensions reportedly resurfaced later when the tenant accused Madam Charlotte of discussing the incident with other residents and neighbours, an act she perceived as public humiliation.

In response to this perceived slight, the tenant is said to have called her grandson, identified as Paa Kwesi, to report the matter.

Upon his arrival, the situation reportedly took a violent turn. The grandson allegedly assaulted Madam Charlotte with a belt during a confrontation, an attack witnesses say left the elderly landlady visibly distressed.

Shortly after the alleged assault, Madam Charlotte’s health reportedly deteriorated rapidly.

She was rushed to the Nyakrom Health Centre, where medical personnel observed complications linked to high blood pressure.

Due to the severity of her condition, she was referred to another health facility for further treatment.

Tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
