The Ghana Football Association has expressed absolute confidence in the senior women national team as they believe the ladies will give off their best at the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations which is to be staged in Morocco from July 5 to July 26 2025.

The Black Queens ended their pre-Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendlies with a 3-1 loss to 9-time African women's championship winners, Nigeria on Sunday, June 29 at the Lanoria Complex.

Ghana had initially recorded two straight victories prior to face off against their continental rivals, Nigeria.

Their first win was a 2-1 score line against Botswana before commanding 4-2 win against Benin in the second game.

Despite the mixed results, senior manager in charge of communications at the Ghana FA, Tophic Abdul Kadir Sienu believes the friendlies are enough preparations to propel the team to reaching the desired level at the tournament.

“We are looking at how the Black Queens will be able to give a good representation of Ghana at the African Women’s Championship, Tophic Kadir Sienu told Radio Gold.

“The Black Queens have represented Ghana in a number of tournaments and recent times, In terms of women football, the Black Queens are the biggest movers in terms of the FIFA rankings when it comes to Africa.

“And so we are all hoping that when the African Cup starts, the Black Queens will be able to lift the flag of Ghana high and we are very confident considering how they are preparing so far.

“They have been to Senegal to play some friendly matches there, they have been to Ivory Coast to play some friendly matches there and currently in Morocco.

“We believe that these friendly matches will give the team the right preparations and readiness for the tournament.”

The Black Queens spent nine days in Senegal where they engaged the Teranga Lionesses in two friendlies – winning the first clash by 1-0 and losing the second via the same score.

Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side recently concluded a training tour of Ivory Coast where they drew 3-3 with the Francophone side in the first game before losing by a lone goal in the second fixture.

Ghana is paired in Group C with Mali who are goind to be at the tournament for the eighth time, as well as Tanzania and defending champions South Africa for the tournament.
