Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, has called for an honest discussion on the challenges facing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program in Ghana.
While the initiative, introduced in 2017, was initially celebrated for making secondary education accessible, it has led to overcrowded classrooms, strained resources, and inadequate infrastructure.
Braimah urges headmasters, teachers, and students to openly address these issues, warning that the current focus on the policy's successes ignores its pressing problems.
He stresses that these challenges must be addressed to safeguard the quality of education and secure the future of both students and the nation.
