Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, George Afriyie has questioned why Ghana should bank its hopes on a 19 year old midfielder who was injured.

Kudus Mohammed was named in Ghana's squad for the African Cup of Nations tournament which is ongoing in Cameroon but was not in camp due to his fitness.

The player who was injured but has now returned to fitness has been captured in photos and videos training with his Ajax teammates in a winter training camp in Portugal.

The player sustained an injury during Ghana's  1-0 win over South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The creative midfielder got injured when Ghana faced South Africa in the last match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana expected the midfielder to join the team in Cameroon but he instead stayed with his club side Ajax before Ghana suffered a group stage exit following defeat to Comoros Island.

"If an injured 19-year-old Kudus Mohammed was the man we were counting on to rescue our tournament, then we have a problem," he told Accra based Asaase Radio

The Black Stars lost their opening game to Morocco by 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Gabon and losing 3-2 to the 132nd ranked Comoros Island finishing bottom of the group with just a point.
