A video of lovers being flogged at the forecourt of Wa Naa's Palace in Wa in the Upper West Region has gone viral on social media.

The two adults were 'punished' for filming their sexual intercourse which got leaked on the internet.

The lovebirds were tied to a pole at the forecourt of the Wa Naa’s Palace by a group of young men and flogged.

This was after the young men accosted them from their hideout in the town and marched them to the Palace.

According to the young men, it was wrong for them to have filmed their sexual intercourse. The two were also accused of tarnishing the reputation of the town and for engaging in an act that is frowned upon by Islam.

At least, 20 lashes each were handed out to them as punishment deemed fit.

Agya Kwabena's reaction

Reacting to the incident, Agya Kwabena, host of UTV's flagship morning show, Adekye Nsroma, applauded the young men for what he indicated was the best decision taken by them.

According to the popular broadcaster, taking nude photos or filming sexually explicit content and uploading unto the internet is on the rise and if such disciplinary actions are not taken, things may get out of hand.

He noted that there have been a series of incidents where students in senior high schools record their naked photos or sexual acts and put them on social media for reasons best known to them.

Agya Kwabena described the development as worrying as according to him, this does not form part of our culture as Ghanaian people.

"...For me, I'm in full support of the incident. This is not our culture. This filming of nudity and sexual acts is something that has been going on and if care is not taken, things will get out of hand," he said on live TV.

Meanwhile, the Wa Police Command says it is surprising that the assault of the two persons took place at the forecourt of Wa Naa palace and has since invited some chiefs at the palace to assist them with investigations.
