What is your favourite regional sweet during Holi?
Puran Poli contains way more nutritional value than any other sweet you generally consume. It contains the goodness of lentils such as chana dal (Bengal gram), which is a good source of fibre and folate apart from Vitamins A, B and D. Traditionally, Puran Poli is also prepared with spices like cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and fennel seeds, which are very rich in nutrients.
And, what's more? It is a great dessert for weight watchers too! Puran Poli is had with ghee and milk. Had together, they speed up the fat burning process. While ghee is a good fat source, milk gives you essential calcium and mineral content you need for the day.

It aids in digestion too!Wellness coach Luke Coutinho also suggests people to have Puran Poli during festival time and calls it a healthy choice. This is because the lentils (Bengal gram) used in the preparation of the dish are pre-soaked for a good 12-14 hours before cooking. When lentils get soaked, they release a powerful phytic acid, which makes food easily digestible and ensures that you do not feel very heavy on the stomach. The presence of cardamom, nutmeg and fennel seeds also help boost the immunity, resolve any digestive issue and release anti-inflammatory properties which protect your body.

So, this Holi, you can have your dessert without any added guilt and truly enjoy the festival spirit!
