Ghanaian international and former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has strongly denied all criminal charges leveled against him by the UK’s Metropolitan Police, following his formal indictment on Friday.
The 32-year-old footballer faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving three different women.
Authorities allege that two of the rape charges relate to one complainant, three to another, and the sexual assault charge to a third individual. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Partey’s legal counsel, Jenny Wiltshire, issued a statement on his behalf, rejecting the accusations and affirming that her client has cooperated fully with law enforcement throughout the investigation, which has spanned three years.
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation,” Wiltshire said.
She further noted that Partey welcomes the chance to contest the allegations in court:
“He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further.”
Partey is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, where the legal proceedings will officially commence.
The charges come just days after the midfielder parted ways with Arsenal following the expiration of his contract.
