Ghana international Thomas Partey is set to leave Villarreal when his contract expires at the end of the season, with the club’s head coach confirming the midfielder is not part of future plans.

Reports from Spain say Villarreal boss Marcelino García Toral has already informed the club’s hierarchy that Partey will not be retained beyond the end of his deal, bringing his brief spell at the La Liga side to a close.

The 32-year-old joined Villarreal on a two-year contract after leaving Arsenal, where he spent five seasons in the Premier League. But his return to Spain has not gone as hoped. Partey has struggled for regular minutes, making just 18 appearances across all competitions and often finding himself on the fringes of the squad.

Once regarded as one of Europe’s most complete midfielders during his time at Atlético Madrid, Partey’s career has been disrupted by injuries and inconsistent game time in recent years, limiting his influence on the pitch.

With Villarreal now looking elsewhere, Partey is expected to become a free agent when his contract ends in June, opening the door to a new chapter late in his career. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at around €5m.

For the Black Stars midfielder, the coming months will be crucial as he weighs his next move and whether he can still find a setting where his experience and quality can make a lasting impact.
