Thomas Partey, the 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder currently playing for Spanish club Villarreal, has been charged with two additional counts of rape in the UK, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed.
The newly authorised charges follow a fresh Metropolitan Police investigation into historic allegations dating back to 2020 involving a separate complainant. These sit alongside the existing legal case in which Partey has previously denied five rape charges and one count of sexual assault relating to incidents allegedly committed between 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal.
Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 13 March in connection with the latest accusations. His trial on the original counts has been scheduled for 2 November 2026 at Southwark Crown Court.
The charges have thrust Partey, a seasoned international with over 50 caps for Ghana back into legal proceedings that have spanned several years. He is currently on conditional bail, which allows him to continue his professional career abroad, provided he notifies police of any international travel and does not contact the complainants.
Partey joined Villarreal after leaving Arsenal in June 2025, where he spent five seasons and was a regular first-team player. Despite the ongoing case, he remains eligible for selection by both club and country as the judicial process unfolds.
The case remains before the courts, and under UK law, Mr Partey is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
