Thomas Partey was returning from a thigh injury sustained playing against Aston Villa last month but didn't finish playing the first half before he pulled up and was replaced.
Mikel Arteta’s men headed into proceedings in desperate need of a bounce-back result, amid a frankly embarrassing spell of form of late.
The capital giants had fallen to defeat in 4 of their previous 6 in the Premier League, a run which left Arsenal languishing in 15th in the English top-flight ahead of kick-off this evening.
A counter-attacking masterclass on the part of Spurs sees Jose Mourinho’s men boasting a 2-0 advantage to this point in the derby.
Heung-min Son opened the game’s scoring inside the opening quarter of an hour, cutting inside from the left before unleashing a stunning bending effort beyond the clutches of Bernd Leno in the Arsenal goal:
Another clinical breakaway saw Son this time turn provider, laying on Harry Kane to lash home off the underside of the crossbar with his left foot:
As the hosts burst forward in their pursuit of a 2nd, Thomas Partey was actually off the pitch.
Upon the ball making its way into the Arsenal half, Mikel Arteta, in turn, opted to physically push the Ghanaian back into proceedings, in a bid to prevent a hammer blow mere seconds before he was due to provide a key half-time team-talk.
Partey, though, did not make it far, immediately pulling up once more, as it became clear that the midfield all-rounder was in no state to continue.
In turn, Partey was forced to hobble off, to be replaced by Dani Ceballos.
This of course comes as even more of a concern when taking into account the fact that Partey had previously been viewed as a major doubt to even feature this evening, after spending several weeks on the sidelines with a thigh problem.
