Thousands of residents have been rendered homeless following a demolition exercise by Tema West Assembly on Wednesday, 3 July 2019.

The demolition exercise which was done in the presence of armed military men at Kiosk Estate along the Accra-Tema motorway is to pave the way for expansion works on the stretch.

The demolition exercise, which involved close to 1000 structures, is to enable the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) to commence road expansion works on the motorway.

Some distraught squatters who were around at the time of the exercise were able to salvage some of their property while others lost theirs.

The residents alleged that the authorities did not give them prior notice before the exercise.
