Reports from Ghana claim Roshi Motman will be appointed MD of a combined Airtel/Tigo entity

Tigo managing director Roshi Motman is in line to become the new MD of the combined Airtel/Tigo entity in Ghana if the deal is approved.

Bharti Airtel and Millicom – the parent company of Tigo – announced plans to merge their Ghanian arms earlier this month in order to compete with market leader MTN.

The 50:50 JV is likely to be led by Motman, according to Citi Business News. Motman joined the Millicom group in 2014 from Tele2, where she’d held a number of roles including head of sales.

If the reports are accurate, it raises questions over the future of current Airtel Ghana chief Lucy Quist, who joined from Vodafone Ghana in 2014.

The merger is likely to take months to complete, should it be rubber stamped by regulators, with the combined entity becoming the second largest telecoms operator in the African country.
