Sydney Casely Hayford of Occupy Ghana, has stated that the Students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) are more focused on fashion than the training they undergo in the Institute.
According to him, the students of GIJ, majority of whom are females are inclined towards fashion and this has reduced the quality of journalism in the country.
He has advised the students to reduce the level of fashion and focus on the "actual content".
“Go to the Ghana Institute of Journalism, GIJ, and look at the students who are coming out, majority of them are females and when you look at it, you will see that it is more of a fashion parade…so when we are talking about quality of journalism, they should tone down on the fashion and get a little bit more serious with the actual content,” he stated.
He passed the comments while speaking on Citi FM on Saturday while commenting on the encounter of the President with the Media on Wednesday.
The aftermath of the meeting between the Press and the President at the Flagstaff house was the criticisms that came from Ghanaians who claimed that the Press could not throw thought provoking questions to the President.
One of the criticisms had come from Professor Samuel Gyampo, a law lecturer from the the University of Ghana who had said that the market women would have done a better job at asking questions that would have pinned the President enough.
