Former Deputy Minister and Ghana’s ex-Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Tony Aidoo, has strongly dismissed Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential ambitions, describing the businessman and former Assin Central MP as unfit for leadership.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Dr. Aidoo questioned Agyapong’s character and credibility, asserting that his temperament and track record disqualify him from occupying the highest office of the land.
“Oh my God! Kennedy Agyapong as president of Ghana? Ei!” Dr. Aidoo exclaimed before launching into a scathing critique of the outspoken politician.
He accused Agyapong of being dishonest and disrespectful, saying, “He is a loudmouth. He lies, he insults. He knows he can’t be touched, but one day somebody is going to touch him. He doesn’t tell any truth. He concocts stories about people.”
Dr. Aidoo also rubbished Agyapong’s claims of being a grassroots politician and a follower of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s ideology, insisting that the NPP stalwart neither understands nor upholds Nkrumah’s principles.
“What does he know about Nkrumah? He, Kennedy Agyapong, what does he know about Nkrumah?” he asked.
The former diplomat further questioned Agyapong’s contributions to his party’s grassroots despite reportedly benefiting from lucrative contracts under past NPP administrations.
“How many contracts has he got from Kufuor and Akufo-Addo? How much of that did he extend to the party?”
Dr. Aidoo concluded that a Kennedy Agyapong presidency would not serve Ghana’s best interests, stating emphatically,
“I’m doubtful if the presidency of Kennedy Agyapong can be beneficial to Ghana. It won’t.”
Kennedy Agyapong, who lost the NPP presidential primary in 2023, has since hinted at running as an independent candidate in future elections.
