Award-winning Ghanaian journalist who is specialised on Energy reporting, Michael Creg Afful, has written to the President, HE Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to halt the appointment of Mr. Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

According to Creg, who is the Managing Editor of the Energynewsafrica.com, Mr. Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah is struggling just one month after his appointment and therefore ought to be relieved off his post to pave the way for a substantive CEO to be appointed head the GNPC.

"Sadly, I see him struggling. And the earlier he is asked to step aside for a substantive CEO to be appointed the better." He said.

He added that the current GNPC Board is aware that Ahweneeh-Danquah is woefully incompetent and cannot superintendent over the affairs of the National Oil Company (NOC), hence the call for the termination of his appointment.

ATTENTION

@Your Excellency, President Nana Akufo-Addo, Republic of Ghana

I bring you greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I trust you're doing well.

I'm writing to you in my capacity as a seasoned journalist who report on energy in Ghana, Africa and beyond and as a pastor (Evangelist).

You will recall that on April 20, 2022, Board Chair of GNPC Mr Freddie W. Blay issued a Memo to the effect that Mr Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah, a Deputy CEO of GNPC in charge of techinal operations had been appointed as Acting CEO of the Corporation

Prior to the Memo energynewsafrica.com published a story regarding attempt by your Executive Secretary and GNPC Board to get you to appoint Mr Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah as the next CEO of GNPC after the exit of Dr KK Sarpong.

My intelligence in government indicate that the said story shook the presidency and made certain people uncomfortable.

Mr President, it is important for me to state that since 2017 when you assumed office and started making appointment to the Energy Sector I have never raised any concern regarding your appointments. I have good working relationship with your appointees and the industry.

My daily news updates is helping the industry and Ghanaians who have been following our platforms to be informed about what is happening both in Ghana and elsewhere.

Mr President last Friday, May 20,2022, was exactly ONE MONTH when Mr Opoku Ahweneeh-Danquah was appointed to act as CEO of GNPC.

Sadly, I see him struggling. And the earlier he is asked to step aside for a substantive CEO to be appointed the better.

The Board is aware that he doesn't have the capacity to lead the National Oil Company (NOC).

Mr President, you would recalled that you asked Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators. It for this reason that I'm writing to you to act quickly.

There is a gentleman in the Bible called Adonijah(1 Kings 1:1-53). His father was King David. David promised to let Solomon ascend his throne as a successor.

Adonijah quickly mobilised some people in his father's Kingdom and set himself on the throne as King.

He sacrificed a number of animals to cement his stay on the throne.
(1 King 1:24-27 And Nathan said, “My lord the king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’? 25 For he has gone down this day and nhas sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons, the commanders3 of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, p‘Long live King Adonijah!’ But me, your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon he has not invited. Has this thing been brought about by my lord the king and you have not told your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”)

Interestingly, the Prophet Nathan, Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada saw what Adonijah had done and went to King David. David was moved and directed Zadok to go and anoint Solomon as the King.

1 Kings 1:32-34 King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” So they came before the king. And the king said to them, “Take with you uthe servants of your lord and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet there wanoint him king over Israel.

Mr President, I'm by the above scripture encouraging you to act fast in the interest of the nation and not the interest of the few people around you.Yours faithfully

MC AFFUL
