The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is making steady progress toward full recovery, thanks to the expertise and dedication of Ghanaian engineers whose work is powering the facility’s resurgence.
This assurance came from TOR Managing Director, Edmund Kombat, during the induction ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana.
At the event, IET honoured Mr. Kombat for his leadership in steering the refinery’s transformation and pledged its full support for the ongoing revitalisation efforts.
With renewed optimism, Mr. Kombat announced a major milestone: TOR is on course to become fully operational by the end of the year. The revelation was met with enthusiastic applause, reflecting widespread hope that the refinery—once a pillar of Ghana’s energy security—will soon return to full capacity.
The ceremony also highlighted the exceptional work of TOR’s engineers, whose skill and commitment have been instrumental in overcoming the complex technical challenges involved in restarting refinery operations. Mr. Kombat described them as the driving force behind TOR’s revival.
Beyond operational gains, he emphasised the national importance of restoring TOR. A fully functioning refinery, he said, would significantly boost domestic refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products, enhance energy security, and create wider economic opportunities within the downstream petroleum sector.
