Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku says his side is targeting victory against Kaizer Chiefs in their upcoming Toyota Cup clash in Durban, South Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors are in town to face South African giants Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, July 26, in a high-profile pre-season friendly that has stirred excitement across the continent.

Opoku, who rejoined Kotoko earlier this year, says the team is confident and ready to make a statement against their hosts.

“We all know we are Asante Kotoko, and Asante Kotoko is undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in Africa,” the striker told Kotoko SC Media.

“So ahead of every game, we try to do well and win – for ourselves and for our supporters. We want to win on Saturday to make them very happy.”

Kotoko touched down in Durban on Wednesday, having departed Ghana on Tuesday night. The team was warmly received by officials of Kaizer Chiefs and later checked in at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice.

The squad held their first training session on Thursday morning at the George Campbell School of Technology, as final preparations intensified for Saturday’s encounter.

The Toyota Cup showdown forms part of the pre-season build-up for both sides as they gear up for the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns, and is expected to draw thousands to the iconic Durban stadium.
