Two persons have been arrested by the Kotobabi Police for assaulting a police officer and the MCE for the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly, Aminu Mohammed Zakari (MZ) at Pig Farm in Accra.

The two suspects, Ecclesiastics Opoku, 28, and Asamoah Alex, 29, reportedly assaulted Inspector Thomas Aho of the Kotobabi District Police Station.

The police officer was assaulted when he tried to save the MCE for Ayawaso North Constituency, MZ, who had gone to the location to stop the suspects from damaging an asphalted surface.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, upon receiving information that the asphalted road was being damaged through concreting, dispatched MZ who upon reaching the place was pounced upon, and when the police officer was asked to move to the place, he was also beaten by the suspects who are being held as preparations are ongoing to send them to court.
The regional minister yesterday proceeded to the Kotobabi Police Station to enquire about the condition of the assaulted police officer.

The minister commended the police officer who in spite of being armed at the time of the attack exercised maximum restraint and avoided pulling the trigger.

The minister, unhappy about the situation, told the Crime Officer that his visit was also to plead with the police to ensure that the law takes its course because as he put it “as the Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council it behooves me to ensure that law enforcement officers and personnel of the intelligence community discharge their duties without hindrance whatsoever.”

The two suspects, DAILY GUIDE gathered, would be charged for damaging public property and assaulting a public officer.
