The Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court, in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has remanded two 18-year-olds into prison custody for allegedly robbing two brothers at Abuakwa-Sepaase.
The accused, Albert Mensah, unemployed, and Bismark Yeboah, an excavator operator’s apprentice, pleaded not guilty.
They are expected to reappear before the court on September 12.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa told the court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau, that Mensah and Yeboah reside at Sepaase and Adwafo, respectively.
The complainants, Alex Duah and Blessing Duah, both tilers and tricycle (Pragyia) riders, live at Sepaase.
On August 18, around midnight, the Duah brothers were negotiating a fare with two women who wanted to hire their tricycle when the accused persons approached.
They demanded the victims’ mobile phones and launched an attack.
According to the prosecution, Mensah and Yeboah overpowered Blessing, seizing his iPhone 11 Pro Max valued at GH¢2,600 and GH¢800 in cash.
When they attempted to rob Alex, Blessing intervened, prompting Mensah to allegedly pull a kitchen knife and stab Alex in the back, leaving a deep cut.
The assailants fled, but the victims’ screams drew nearby residents, who rushed Alex to the Abuakwa Polyclinic. He was later transferred to the Kwadaso SDA Hospital, where he was admitted for two days before being discharged.
Police later arrested Mensah at his Sepaase residence, while Yeboah was handed over by relatives. In their caution statements, both admitted to the offence.
They were subsequently charged and arraigned.
