The Upper East Patriotic Movement for Growth, a pro-New Patriotic Party group has accused the regional chairman of the party Anthony Namoo and regional executives of the party’s failure to win more parliamentary seats in the just-ended elections.
According to the group, the incompetence of the regional executives failed to shore up the party’s seats from three to its targeted seven seats but rather flipped the three seats to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and only won one seat.
The convener for the group, Ayuba Abubakar, could not fathom why amidst the resources given to the party structures in the region, the region’s presidential votes reduced from 35 percent in 2016 to 32 percent in 2020.
Mr. Ayuba in a press statement further called for the resignation of the NPP’s Upper East Regional Chairman Anthony Namoo.
“…the Regional Chairman did not only announce but bragged that he would relinquish his position as Regional Chairman of the NPP if he lost the Nabdam Parliamentary Seat.”
“This may explain largely why he chose to pitch camp in Nabdam virtually becoming the de facto Constituency Chairman and determining who was fit to be in the campaign of the party or not.”
“It is, therefore, based on this that; we call on him to honourably resign from the position and allow for a smooth re-organization of the party in the region.”
“Our call is not made because we dislike him. It is rather made because we want to rebuild the NPP to the level that made it attractive for him to seek leadership which we graciously granted him by campaigning for and voting him at the April 2018 Regional Delegates Conference.”
