Abu Dhabi: The AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 schools programme has inspired the next generation of footballers with the engagement initiative reaching its conclusion this week during a final educational event at GEMS Primary School in Fujairah.
Over 125,000 children and young people from 150 schools participated in the programme over a six-month period, which was designed to inspire a lifetime of football enthusiasm. Qualified coaches and staff toured from school to school across every corner of the Emirates to deliver the excitement of world-class footballing action.
As part of the legacy of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 in developing young people, the programme endeavored to shine the spotlight on the talent of young football players across the UAE, promote healthy lifestyles, drive an active community spirit and a foster a genuine sporting interest amongst youngsters that translates into healthy and fulfilling lifestyles.
From special ambassador appearances to attending games, the action-packed schools programme has seen children gain access to exclusive Q&A sessions with legendary football stars such as Saudi Arabia legend Majed Abdullah and UAE star Zuhair Bakheet, whilst also being afforded the opportunity to attend live international football matches, which for many, has been the opportunity of a lifetime.
During the tailor-made sessions adapted for each school, children participated in educational activities such as identifying the flags of competing nations and maps of the continent, using football-related activities to motivate and enhance the learning process.
With the programme and tournament now reaching the final stages, the LOC has proudly hosted over 50,000 students at AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 matches with 65 schools attending the tournament.
