Abu Dhabi: Fans are the fuel that drive players and the United Arab Emirates, said Khamis Esmaeel, are determined to give them joy when the hosts face India in an AFC Asian Cup Group A match at the Zayed Sports City Stadium on Thursday.

The team, admitted Esmaeel, left the fans disappointed after the 1-1 draw with Bahrain in their opening match, and are determined to make up for that against India, who impressed with a 4-1 win over Thailand.

"The fans are the fuel that push us players to get better and better and it is our responsibility to make sure we satisfy them," said the Al-Wasl midfielder.

The draw with Bahrain, secured thanks to a last gasp penalty by Ahmad Khalil, means UAE are still masters of their destiny.

"We know that is what the fans want, for us to have a successful tournament. We know they will be behind us when we face India. They don't need a message or invitation to support us and we too know our role, which is to make sure we satisfy them," added Esmaeel.

UAE, said Esmaeel, know that India will be tough opposition.

"India play as one team. They are very strong and have many capable players. However, the desire to win is very strong in our team and we will do our best."
