The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced the suspension of its affiliation and mentorship relationship with Royal Nursing College following the withdrawal of the college’s accreditation by regulators.
The decision follows action taken by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), which closed down the institution in February for failing to comply with regulatory requirements governing tertiary institutions in Ghana.
In a statement, UCC said the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the university, the action became necessary after the college failed to comply with directives issued by regulatory authorities, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and GTEC, as well as instructions from the university itself.
“The decision has been necessitated by the College’s non-compliance with regulatory directives and instructions,” the statement said.
UCC emphasised that it remains committed to protecting the quality and credibility of academic programmes delivered through institutions operating under its affiliation and mentorship arrangements.
The university also indicated that it will continue to collaborate with relevant regulators to ensure that programmes run by its partner institutions meet approved academic and professional standards.
To minimise disruption to students, UCC has introduced a teach-out arrangement for current Level 300 students of the college, enabling them to complete their studies under an approved academic framework.
The university further urged the management of Royal Nursing College to take the necessary steps to address the regulatory concerns and work toward restoring compliance with the required standards.
