Member of Parliament [MP] for Lower Manya Constituency in the Eastern Region, Ebenezer Okletey Tei-Larbi has said the recent misunderstanding at the University of Education, Winneba [UEW] is as a result of the government in power wanting to have its party members occupy key positions in the school.

“Every government in power wants to at all cost have its men in position forgetting about the laws binding those institutions. Frankly, unnecessary interference caused this confusion,” he said.

Hon. Okletey Tei-Larbi who spoke on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme insisted the mess caused at UEW started with suggestions and decisions initiated by prominent men in government with respect to educational issues.

“Indeed there were remote causes that influenced every action taken so far in the school. This action is wrong and is about time every government in power goes according to laws regulating every institution leaving aside politics,” he added.

Explaining himself further, he mentioned that until proper measures are put in place to check that the right procedures and laws binding every institution is respected as such, more of such happenings will be encountered, which does not send affirmative signals about our country.

Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has given the assurance that all major stakeholders in the area, will do all it takes to ensure that the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), which has been closed down indefinitely, is reopened as soon as possible.
