A tragic road accident on Saturday, September 20, 2025, has claimed the life of a Level 200 student of the Education for the Hearing Impaired (EHI) Unit at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
The deceased, identified as Gloria Afidemenyo, was among students travelling in a mini-bus to Kpando and Hohoe when the vehicle was involved in a crash near Peki.
Eyewitnesses reported that the students were returning home when the accident occurred. The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed, but police and emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue victims and transport them to nearby hospitals.
Gloria was confirmed dead on the spot, while several others sustained injuries ranging from minor cuts to fractures. The injured students were taken to the Peki Government Hospital and other nearby facilities for treatment.
In a statement, the UEW management expressed condolences to Gloria’s family and assured that the university is collaborating with local authorities and medical personnel to support the injured.
“This is a difficult moment for the UEW community. We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and continue to pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured,” the statement read.
The accident has left the entire UEW community in mourning, as students and staff rally to support the affected families.
