The University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social gatherings on campus following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
The decision comes after the university confirmed a resurgence of infections on Monday, June 23, urging members of the campus community to take urgent precautions.
In a statement released Thursday, June 26, the University’s Health Directorate revealed that both suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported on campus. As a result, health protocols have been reactivated, with increased surveillance and awareness measures in place.
“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement read.
In a related directive, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has instructed all student bodies—including GRASAG, the SRC, JCRs, and departmental and school associations—to suspend all planned events and week celebrations until further notice.
According to Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, the directive is a precautionary move aimed at protecting the health and safety of the university community.
“These measures have become necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the University community."
The university is urging all students and campus organisations to comply fully with the directive and support ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
