University of Ghana extends deadline for selected Information and Communication Studies courses

Prospective students have until 18 September to apply for selected programmes at the University of Ghana’s School of Information and Communication Studies after the institution extended its admissions deadline.

Dr Aurelia Ayisi, a lecturer in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana, announced the extension during an interview on JoyFM Super Morning Show on 28 August.

The revised deadline gives applicants who did not submit their applications before the original closing date another opportunity to seek admission.

“Recently the admissions were extended, so for those of you listening and thought that you missed the admission deadline, you haven’t,” she said.

Dr Ayisi urged prospective students to use the additional time to complete and submit their applications before 18 September.

The extended admissions cover selected postgraduate programmes offered by the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Information Studies.

The Department of Information Studies is accepting applications for its Master’s in Information Studies, MPhil in Information Studies and PhD in Information Studies programmes.

Dr Ayisi said the Master’s in Information Studies is available through both regular and sandwich options. The two formats provide different study arrangements for students depending on their circumstances and availability.

The Department of Communication Studies is also offering places on a number of postgraduate courses. These include the MA in Communication Studies, MA in Strategic Communication, MPhil in Communication Studies and PhD in Communication Studies.

The MA in Strategic Communication is available in regular and flexible formats. Students enrolled on the flexible option attend lectures in the evenings and at weekends, allowing the programme to accommodate those who may have other daytime responsibilities.

According to Dr Ayisi, the flexible version of the programme has received considerable interest and is performing well.

The University of Ghana’s extension therefore applies specifically to the selected programmes under the School of Information and Communication Studies, rather than representing a general admissions announcement for every course at the university.

Applicants interested in the eligible programmes have been encouraged to take advantage of the extended timetable and ensure their applications are submitted by the new 18 September deadline.
