It has been alleged that a bank in Ghana defrauded a Ghanaian cook living in the United States when she used an electronic banking outlet at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Chef Asantewaa disclosed on her platform 'Family Chef Kitchen' on Facebook that she used an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Kotoka Airport to withdraw money shortly before flying back to the United States.

After inserting her card, she claims she received a warning signal indicating that the bank was unable to pay her; as a result, she withdrew her card and instead called a relative, who sent her momo to cover the bills for which she was in desperate need of the money.

She said that she only discovered a few days after arriving at her destination in the United States that the bank had been scamming her.

She alleged that after deducting their service fee, the bank continued to withdraw money from her card without her knowledge.

she said that she only learned about the deductions after she made the decision to check the balance in her account after spending some time off with her family and loved ones in Ghana.

She expressed surprise that the bank had taken money out of her account without her knowledge.

"Even two hours before checking my balance, someone had used my card to buy tissue paper at the airport," she said, adding "I've no idea how the money was been taken from my card, and I don't know how they do it."

She claims that after she reported the incident to Bank of America customer support, they promptly banned the card and gradually refunded the money to her account, despite finding it difficult to believe her story.

She questioned why her card information could be made public simply because she used an ATM in Ghana and claimed that if this could happen to her, then no one in the country is safe.

She identified Citibank Accra as the financial institution that conned her, and advised other visitors to avoid using any of the ATMs owned by the said bank whenever they arrive at the Kotoka Airport.
