Vancouver Whitecaps have completed the signing of Ghanaian-born United States defender Prince Amponsah on a deal running through to 2026, following his standout performances in MLS Next Pro.
Amponsah joins the Canadian club from New York City FC, where he impressed with his consistency and defensive awareness, earning recognition as one of the promising young players in the league’s development system.
The defender will initially feature for Whitecaps II, the club’s reserve side, as he continues his development and works towards breaking into the senior team. Club officials see the move as a long-term investment, with Amponsah viewed as a player capable of progressing into Major League Soccer action.
For the young defender, the switch offers a fresh opportunity to build on his recent form and stake a claim at a club known for promoting talent from its development ranks.
Whitecaps staff will now monitor his progress closely as he begins life in Vancouver, with the expectation that strong performances at reserve level could open the door to a senior team debut in the near future.
