Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has suggested that France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia thanks to their players of African origin.

France secured their second title after beating Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 World Cup final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday.

"The French team won , although they looked like an African team, in fact, Africa won, the African migrants who moved to France," Maduro said.

Les Blues have as many as 14 players with African roots in their squad including Kylian Mbappe, Ousmanne Dembele, Ngolo Kante and Samuel Umiti among several others.

They draw heritage from nine different African countries, namely Guinea, Cameroon, Senegal, DR Congo, Mali, Angola, Togo, Morocco and Algeria.
