The Confederation of African Football, has introduced Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology for the first time on African soil in the game between Morocco Vs Guinea at Casablanca Total CHAN2018.

The historic match saw host nation Morocco qualify for a place in the quarter finals after beating Guinea 3-1.

The system allows off-field match officials to assist referees in "game-changing" situations such as goals, penalty kicks, straight red cards and cases of mistaken identity.

It has been trialled in the Italian Serie A and German Bundesliga this season and debuted in England this week.

The introduction of this refereeing system forms part of CAF’s intention to improve the standard and quality of officiating on the continent in future tournaments.
