Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has reiterated his call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack all members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) occupying positions at the various state institutions.
According to him, some elements in the opposition NDC who are still at post are behind the planting of a secret audiovisual recording device in the office of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu.
He said their intention is to thwart the Minister’s plans in the fight against illegal mining known as ‘galamsey’ in the country.
He noted that, though the NPP won the 2016 elections, it is the opposition NDC running affairs at various state institutions.
“I have called on Nana Addo to sack all NDC officials occupying state institutions. When the NDC were in power, they benefited from galamsey and thus didn’t make any effort to stop but and since our new minster Mr Amewu is against galamsey, they have decided to destroy his plans by putting spying device in his office, Mr. Agyapong told Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” on Tuesday.
“NPP is in power but trust me, NDC is actually ruling the country because they have taken control of affairs of all state institutions in the country and causing problems for some NPP members at post” he said.
Mr Kennedy Agyapong was reacting to the audiovisual recording device discovered in the office of the Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Mr. Amewu.
It is not clear who might have planted the device and how long it has been there, but it was discovered during a screening exercise in the office by National Security operatives.
The device was planted in the huge Coat of Arms plaque hanging in the far left corner of the Minister’s office.
The device included a camera, a storage unit and another device suspected to be a transmitter.
It was neatly housed in a black metal box and used batteries.
The Minister, who has waged war against illegal mining in the country, said that he is surprised but does not suspect anyone.
“I have no suspicions but I think that somebody is trying to be very mischievous and attempts to derive or gain personal interest. I don’t know what might trigger people to do that”.
The outspoken MP described the situation as worrying, adding that some NDC officials want to sabotage Peter Amewu hence the decision to install the device in his office.
