It appears football is in the Stephen Appiah family DNA as his second son Rodney Appiah has also taken to his father's footsteps.
The youngster who started his football career in Italy with the Juventus academy recently signed for Accra Great Olympics during the second transfer window.
He says he wants to surpass the heights reached by his legendary father Stephen Appiah who qualified the Black Stars to its first ever World Cup in Germany in 2006
Stephen Appiah began his footballing career with Accra Hearts of Oak before sealing a move to Italy where he initially played for Parma, Brescia before joining Italian giants Juventus.
He had a hugely successful spell with the Bianconeri's before leaving to join Turkish giants Fenerbache and later Serbian side Vojvodina.
Appiah is highly revered and is regarded as among the best ever captains the Black Stars ever had in recent times.
Son of the legendary Appiah, Rodney who recently joined Accra Great Olympics says he wants to set the bar higher than what his father did.
He made this known in an interview with 3Sports but admits that to achieve that dream he must work extremely hard.
“I was born in Italy, I started my football with the Juventus Academy, with the support of my dad, I really saw myself going to make it,” he said
“I just grew up watching him (Stephen Appiah) and learning from him and seeing how the Ghanaians love him and everything, I also want to play the same way, so Ghanaians love me as well,” he added.
“I need to work extremely hard because I’m playing with older people, people who are more experienced and stronger than me so I just need to work very very hard,” he noted.
“I will try my best to do better than him (my father), play well on the field so that I don’t destroy our name or anything like that.
“He (Stephen Appiah) just keeps telling to have fun on the pitch. that I should just be myself and should not try to be like him,” Rodney Appiah told 3Sports.
