Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana says that the first person he spoke to when he decided to make his move to Stade Rennes was former Chelsea and Ghana star Michael Essien.

Essien now works with FC Nordsjaelland as part of the club's backroom staff after retiring from football not long ago.

The former FC Nordsjaelland star says that he sought counsel from the former Chelsea star who played in France for Bastia and Lyon about how the French league looks like.

The player turned down the Dutch champions for ambitious French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes and the player has even made his debut in a friendly defeat over Getafe.

He was integral for his side FC Nordjaelland last season as he scored 10 goals while providing four assists in only his second season as a professional footballer.

He signed a five year deal with Stade Rennes which is reportedly worth more than 20 million Euros.

Kamaldeen Sulemana made this known at his unveiling and press conference by his new club on Monday.

"I spoke with Michael Essien who played in Bastia and Lyon. He was able to tell me about Ligue 1," Sulemana told Stade Rennais TV

"It is one of the best championships in Europe. It was a good opportunity."

"Stade Rennais FC will allow me to have playing time, more than elsewhere I think."
